I developed this illustration as a self-initiated work. I sometimes take the magazine Breathe for its wonderful illustrations and positive messages, and I decided that I would create an artwork to accompany one of the articles therein. I approached the task in a typical fashion, creating quick thumbnails for several ideas. I then chose three of those ideas and worked them up into higher fidelity sketches. From there I chose my favourite route and developed the full colour artwork. I got a friend to critique my work and revised the artwork with two rounds of changes before arriving at the finished piece.
